Get to know your bike
You don’t need to be a pro in order to benefit from a proper bike fit. Even the softest bike will absorb plenty of shock, so you don’t need to be at the gig until you get a bit of proper bike feel. Begin by putting on a good set of gloves, then putting on a light over-all clothing piece, and finally, take a short break from your best gear (to save time) and remove your shoes (for a more fulfilling get-to-know-you moment). Next, put your helmet on and find a comfortable riding position. For the best results, position yourself so that your back is forward and parallel to the ground. While you’re sitting in a comfortable position, try on different types of clothing—long-sleeves, long-sleeve shirts, gloves, and jackets. A good idea is to wear a pair of canvas gloves while you get used to the feeling of wearing gloves. These will keep your hands warm, dry, and protected from the cold wind and rain.
Ride lower
A low rate of gear breakdown is always a positive, no matter what your trade is. But if you’re not riding a fixed gear bike, you may wish to look into getting yourself a low-rolling, low-speed, low-resistance road tire. These are perfect for riders who want a low rate of gear breakage, and want to get the most out of their budget. Most low-rolling road tires are designed to support a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour, which is ideal for riders who want to get around town quickly. These can come in a variety of styles, and may not allow as much grip as a low-rolling, high-speed, top-notch tire would. But they’re still plenty hearty and effective for the job.
Don’t skimp on tires
If you want the best out of your tire dollars, you’ll want to put as much luster as possible on your purchases. We recommend putting away as much cash as you can, as you will surely have to pay for your thoroughly equipped bike in cash. But even if you do manage to get some cash out of your account, it’s a good idea to keep at least some of it in your account until you’ve invested a small amount in each of the tires we’ve mentioned. When you have the money in your account and have room for transaction fees, it will help to have some money saved up. And if you’re really set on buying one particular tire, or just want to get a feel for what it feels like to drive a different model, check out our guide to buying your first bike.
Get a Grip on Bikes
If you’re looking to get a ton of enjoyment out of your bike, you need to get your mind around the idea of “grabbing” your bike. It’s simply not the thing to do. Grabbing your bike is the act of squeezing a baggy tire into a crescent shape, then squeezing that crescent into a spherical shape. It’s the act of grabbing a bike at a specific angle, and then pushing that bike into a specific position. It’s not the act of “grabbing” your bike, it’s the act of pushing it in a certain direction. The more obvious a thing is, the less one must put into it. There are a lot of ways to do a lot of things with a bike, and picking the right way is important. Get a grip on your bike and you’ll find that the handling is much more predictable, and the speed of the bike is much less of an issue.
Train your body
Bike riding is one of the best ways to get in shape. Whether you’re just interested in riding a few miles every day, or want to take your riding to the next level, a bike ride will do much more than just look great on paper. It’ll help you develop your body, and help you stay fit. Put on a pair of cycling gloves, and a fit bike helmet, and take a mile or two on the adventure bike. Go for a HIIT workout, or do some yoga, or do some stretching in the saddle. Whatever your MO is, a bike ride will help you get your body moving.

If you want to go up against the best, you’ll need to look at the best cyclery, and find the bike that best supports your style of riding.
Your fixie bike should suit your riding style, budget, and equipment needs. It should be able to support all day / night rides, and be reliable. Your bike needs to be able to take a beating, and be able to handle all kinds of weather. Ideally, your bike should be able to support you while you work on all your riding skills. If you want to get the most out of your fixie bike, you need to learn to ride it. If you want the best, then learn how to ride a low-rolling, low-speed, low-resistance bike. It’ll help you get the most out of your money, and ensure you have the best experience on your bike.
